IT’S SUMMER still, and on social media stunning videos and photodumps are pouring in of peoples vacations and journeys to exotic places. In this case, the culture-shift og South Asia came into focus, and I’ve had the absolute delight of asking Nanna questions of her trip to Malaysia:

If your journey had a title, what would it be?

“Kuala Lumpur with my BFTB – (Best Friend and Travel Buddy)”

Nanna and her BFTB Nicoline have had the time of their lives together, with this trip being just another yet amazing memorie they’ve shared together.

Describing Malaysia with the three words friendly, diverse and multicultural, we’ve dived into food-recommendations, the Malaysian fashion scene and culture differences.

How would you describe the local fashion scene?

“The local fashion scene is very diverse, reflecting Malaysia’s mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures.

You can really see the different cultural influences in the way people dress - especially the beautiful, often colorful and floral hijabs worn by many Muslim women. This creates a fashion scene that feels vibrant, varied and very different from what I am used to in Denmark.”

Did Malaysian style inspire you to wear something you normally wouldn’t?

“Yes, definitely. I wore maxi skirts a lot more than I normally would, since many places require you to cover your knees”

Because of the heat, Nanna found long trousers often felt too warm. Maxi skirts became a both comfortable and practical alternative.

Did you experience a moment that changed your perspective?

“I visited Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan Mosque, which was very beautiful. Also it was full of people praying, which you could watch discretely. Even small children were praying on their knees. As an atheist, I couldn’t believe all the time, they spend praying every single day.”

When questioned about if there was any conversations with a local that Nanna would never forget, she mentions talking at the mosque with their volunteer tour guide: . A very open conversation between to people embracing their religious differences and just being curious.”

How would you describe Malaysian hospitality?

“Malaysian hospitality felt incredibly warm and welcoming. People were very friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in making sure we felt comfortable. Even small interactions often felt personal, and we were always met with a smile and a willingness to help.”

Did you have a main-character moment?

“Probably making people move their chairs and tables for me to get a perfect shot at the rooftop bar. Again, people here are very kind. I wanted THE picture of the trip. If you know, you know.”

Where did you feel the prettiest during the trip?

“... We went to a very popular rooftop bar and restaurant, which is called The Helipad Rooftop Bar. I was wearing a beautiful pink top with sequins and a black midi skirt along with my curled hair and golden jewellery, I felt very pretty” (pictured below)

What does luxury mean to you while traveling?

“Luxury means a lot to me while traveling. The most important thing to me is living in a beautiful and clean hotel, otherwise I won’t be able to relax, when I’m not out and about.”

Where did you feel most connected to yourself?

“I woke up in the middle of the night, wide awake. The curtains were not fully covering the windows, so laying there in my bed I had the most magical view of the city. I laid there just watching the different towers light up in every colour. It was calm, beautiful and nobody saw it but me.”

If Malaysia had a color palette, what would it be?

“Grey, black and purple. There are a lot of big roads in Kuala Lumpur, which makes the city look grey. The nighttime is a beautiful mix of black and purple with all the city lights.”

Was there a dish you were hesitant to try—but ended up loving?

“Yes, especially nasi lemak, Malaysia’s national dish, and fried noodles from the local street food stalls. At first, I was a little hesitant to order food from the street stalls, but I ended up really enjoying both. The fried noodles in particular became one of my favourite things to eat. “

What would you tell every Danish traveler to order?

“The various fried noodles. But tell the kitchen staff to make it less spicy, or you will need a lot of milk to get through the dish, and it won’t be just as enjoyable.”

Which café or restaurant felt like a hidden gem?

“Jamboo Cafe. It’s a small café, where you can order different drinks such as matcha and iced coffee through a pink wall. When the order is ready, a hand with a creepy glove hands you your drink and scares you a little bit while doing it. It’s fun and the strawberry matcha is one of the best i’ve ever had.”

Which place made you immediately reach for your camera?

“The Batu Caves Temple made me reach for my camera immediately. It is probably one of the most popular places to visit in Malaysia. I took a lot of pics of the colorful stairs, the golden statue and all of the monkeys climbing around there.”

What’s a place you almost don’t want to tell people about?

“Carrousel & Co. Kuala Lumpur. We had the best time here. The place is a indoor carnival-inspired place for small games, which you can play with all of your friends. It also has a very nice restaurant with nice cocktails and food!”

With the thought of city lights at night, the strange but specific smell of Durian-fruit, colorful street market and the friendly people of Malaysia, we thank Nanna for sharing her experience of wonderful Malaysia.

You simply have to go to Dueodde Beach on Bornholm.

With its powder-soft white sand, endless dunes, crystal-clear water and wooden boardwalk winding through pine trees, Dueodde feels almost cinematic. The sand is so incredibly fine that it was once used in hourglasses—a detail that somehow makes the beach feel even more magical. It’s widely considered one of Denmark’s most beautiful beaches and one of Bornholm’s greatest treasures.

A New (Or Perhaps Retired) Kind of Vacationing

I visited Dueodde with my grandmother—and, rather charmingly, two entire buses full of pensioners. While there wasn't exactly a Conrad or Jeremiah waiting at the shoreline, the atmosphere still had that nostalgic, endless-summer feeling. The kind where time slows down, the sea sparkles endlessly, and every walk along the beach feels like a scene from your favourite coming-of-age story.

So if you’re craving the The Summer I Turned Pretty aesthetic this summer, don’t overlook Denmark.

Portugal’s sun-drenched capital has quickly become one of EUROPE’S most desirable destinations—perfect for a long summer escape or a spontaneous weekend getaway. With its pastel-colored streets, iconic yellow trams, terracotta rooftops and golden light reflecting off the Tagus River, Lisbon effortlessly blends old-world charm with contemporary cool.

The city invites you to slow down. Spend your mornings wandering through the narrow alleyways of Alfama, sip coffee in hidden courtyards, browse independent boutiques in Príncipe Real, and end the day with a glass of Portuguese wine as the sun sets over one of Lisbon’s many miradouros (viewpoints).
